Maple Syrup

Great-grandparent Dumplings with Maple Syrup

Ingredients

500 ml (2 cups) all-purpose flour
15 ml (1 tablespoon) baking powder
Pinch of salt
Pinch of ground nutmeg
30 ml (2 tablespoons) unsalted butter, cubed
250 ml (1 cup) milk
625 ml (2 1/2 cups) maple syrup
375 ml (1/2 cup) of water
2 apples, peeled, seeded and quartered

Directions

In a large mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients, then cut in butter using a fork before adding milk, and form a nice big ball of dough. Set aside.

In a saucepan, bring the maple syrup and water to a boil. Add apples and simmer for 3 min. over low heat.

Using an ice cream scoop, form a small ball of dough and gently drop into the boiling syrup mixture. Repeat this last step to work through the entire batch of dough. Cover and simmer for about 15 min.

Drizzle over with cooked maple syrup before serving.
